What is Unique About My Style of Therapy?
I believe that Christian faith can be integrated with clinical counseling techniques
(For Christians who are interested in that type of therapy).
Many Christians fear being led astray by secular therapy techniques or ideas, but that is not something you have to be afraid of here. I also work with people of many different faith backgrounds and do not force my beliefs on anyone.
To get to a deeper level of healing, more than traditional talk therapy is needed.
Managing difficult body sensations is paramount in treating trauma, anxiety, and OCD. Trauma is stored in the body. I use EMDR and Ego state therapy to help connect your mind, body, and emotions. I am an EMDR consultant, which is the highest level of training in EMDR.
I look at everything through the lense of wounding experiences or trauma.
Past experiences shape present behavior, often outside of our present awareness. Sometimes to go forward, you have to go backwards to where it all began.
I believe that our close relationships have shapped us whether we wanted them to or not.
Understanding your connection to parents, caregivers, and past romantic relationships can often inform how you are responding in your present relationships.
I’ve been through some things, but chose to focus on your story during your session time.
I have personal experiences with all kinds of things: marriage, being a foster parent, traumatic divorce, dating as an older single person, remarriage, having a child later in life, chronic pain during pregnancy, having a spouse with a chronic health issue, medical advocacy, and being a highly sensitive person prone to worry to name a few. If you really want to know about me personally, you’re welcome to listen to my podcast where I talk about it pretty transparently. However, I’m not a huge fan of talking about myself during your session. That time is about you and what you need.
We can move as fast or as slow as you need.
Some clients come in with a lot of awareness or coping skills due to previous therapy or self-help they have experienced. These clients may benefit from an intensive therapy session. Other clients need more time to open up and trust due to negative experiences with therapists or others. I want you to feel comfortable with the pace of therapy.
Therapy is provided in person in Smyrna and online (if you are in TN).
After a few years of being fully telhealth, I am back in person and also still provide telehealth sessions to clients in TN.
“Carrie is a wonderful therapist. She and I worked together for about 3 months, and I always felt comfortable with her. She really helped me work through my issues with anxiety.”
“Thank you very much for your help in working with me through my fear of dogs. Our sessions and body awareness exercises have been great for calming myself down and processing my anxious feelings. I am in a much better state of mind.”
