Do you feel stuck?

Do you feel stuck in worry, obsessions, uncomfortable body sensations, traumatic memories, failed relationships or shame?  Does your mind feels like it’s constantly running with a bunch of thoughts that won’t quit? Does your body feel so uncomfortable to be in? Do you feel like you’re fighting all the time?

Are you hard on yourself for being where you are at? I work with many clients who struggle with self-compassion, and this is usually one of the first things we work on together. It’s hard to heal from past or present hurt when you’re beating yourself up (often over things that happend to you, not things you chose).

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, I’m here for you. Living in a state of hypervidgelence (being on the edge of your seat or waiting for the next shoe to drop) is exhausting to your mind and body.

Do you believe you can get unstuck with the right help?

I often work with clients who have multiple issues or life stressors at the same time and are trying to navigate how to feel better. Many (not all) have had some form of therapy before (positive and negative experiences). What is Unique About My Style of Therapy?

I believe that Christian faith can be integrated with clinical counseling techniques

(For Christians who are interested in that type of therapy).

Some Christians fear they will be negatively influenced by secular counseling or new age ideas, but that is not something you have to be afraid of here. Christians often find it comforting to talk with someone who shares their faith.

I have also worked with people of many different faith backgrounds and do not force my beliefs on anyone.

To get to a deeper level of healing, more than traditional talk therapy is needed.

Managing difficult body sensations is paramount in treating trauma, anxiety, and OCD. Trauma is stored in the body. I use EMDR and Ego state therapy to help connect your mind, body, and emotions. I am an EMDR consultant, which is the highest level of training in EMDR. I’ve been trained in specific EMDR protocals for OCD such as the Distancing Technique and Flash Forward.

I look at everything through the lense of wounding experiences or trauma.

Past experiences shape present behavior, often outside of our present awareness. Sometimes to go forward, you have to go backwards to where it all began. I don’t believe in digging up the past for no reason. We will start with what is happening in the present and be curious about where fears originated.

I believe that our close relationships have shapped us whether we wanted them to or not.

Understanding your connection to parents, caregivers, and past romantic relationships can often inform how you are responding in your present relationships.

I’ve been through some things, but chose to focus on your story during your session time.

I have personal experiences with all kinds of things: marriage, being a foster parent, traumatic divorce, dating as an older single person, remarriage, having a child later in life, chronic pain, pregnancy complications, having a spouse with a chronic health issue, medical advocacy, death of both parents, and being a highly sensitive person prone to worry to name a few. If you really want to know about me personally, you’re welcome to listen to my podcast where I talk about it pretty transparently. However, I’m not a huge fan of talking about myself during your session. That time is about you and what you need.

We can move as fast or as slow as you need.

Some clients come in with a lot of awareness or coping skills due to previous therapy or self-help they have experienced. These clients may benefit from an intensive therapy session. Other clients need more time to open up and trust due to negative experiences with therapists or others. I want you to feel comfortable with the pace of therapy.

Therapy is provided in person in Smyrna and online (if you are in TN).

My office is located at 617 Potomac Pl, Unit 403. We are in an office complex behind Parks Realty and accross the street from Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse.

I also provide telehealth sessions to clients in TN.

“Carrie is a wonderful therapist. She and I worked together for about 3 months, and I always felt comfortable with her. She really helped me work through my issues with anxiety.”

5 Star Google review

“Thank you very much for your help in working with me through my fear of dogs. Our sessions and body awareness exercises have been great for calming myself down and processing my anxious feelings. I am in a much better state of mind.”
